Nick Williams is the high school outfielder from Texas that I was able to see for two years at the Area Codes and then at the Baggy Pants All-American All-Star Game at Pet Store Field. Obviously I haven’t seen him since late summer, but left-handed guys on the big circuit events who flash power and speed and arm combinations tend to go pretty well in the draft. At least that’s what the fortune cookies tell me. Maybe my old pal Smudge down there in Texas has seen him a lot this season. Here’s a pre-senior year look, and if you look closely at the last BP round from the closed side, he looks a little Griffey-ish on the follow through. I’m not putting Griffey on him. I like him but let’s not get carried away. I hope he closes up that wide open left-handed stance by the next time I see him.
